A heartfelt solo piano journey into reflection, storytelling, and the beauty of sound.
There are albums you listen to — and there are albums you experience.
When Shadows Talk, the latest solo piano work from classically-trained Australian pianist Fiona Joy Hawkins, is firmly in the latter category.
This is more than music. It’s a piano storybook — a collection of tales told through keys and emotion, where spirit and melody intertwine to take listeners on a journey deep into memory, spirituality, nature, and human connection.
A Creative Journey in Self-Reflection
Critical Praise and Thoughtful Details
Since its release,
When Shadows Talk has drawn heartfelt praise from music reviewers around the world. Music writer
Robin James describes it as “Each track is a story, a place, or a dream, expressing delicately unfolding themes of memory, spirituality, nature, and human emotion. Hawkins weaves a sonic tapestry that’s both intimate and refreshing.”
New Age Notes found hidden meaning even in the album’s finer details. One example, they note, is that the contemplative track "In The Deep" runs exactly 2:22 — a nod, perhaps, to the angel number 222, which symbolizes balance, harmony, and faith.
From the playful lullaby "The Mirror" — a tribute to angelic reflections — to the haunting imagery in "The Ghosts of War Are Marching," every track feels like a glimpse into a moment, a dream, or a truth waiting to be uncovered.
